I'm having a little problem with running vista on my laptop, since the only driver that works with my display is the version released from acer, this version makes vista go BSOD. If I user a never version that doesn't go BSOD, the button and top of my screen is missing, and the rest of the screen is stretched. Just wondering if anybody has some ideas? (I have tried the newer drivers on XP too, and they also causes the edge problem there)

Which build of Vista are you using, Bjarke? And which specific laptop? Maybe someone else will have experience with your hardware.
I tried to put build 5231 on my laptop, and it failed miserably, although it would kinda run. :-( I haven't tried build 5270 on it, since it's not really all that great on my desktop machine. I'm waiting for the next build for the laptop. Probably you should too.

I haven't had time to test anything newer than 5219, but I think I need to find a newer driver that works with the laptop.
You need to move up, its possible your issue has been resolved in the latest build. -- -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Bjarke Istrup Pedersen" wrote in message

okay, I'll give it a try once I get the time to test it :-)
1st I want to know what kind of graphic card you are using.
2nd the drivers for Windows XP are not all good for Vista :(
3rd I think you can try it as follows£¨I never use a English language Windows OS maybe there are some different£©:
right click the mouse on the desktop click the attribute settings advance monitor choose refresh frequency to 60 or 70
Device Manager knows it as: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller I'll try with the refresh rate thing and see if it allows the newer driver to work with my laptop, might be a few days (read: the weekend) before I get time to test it.
I tried the newest driver from Intel, and it doesn't work, it still cuts off some of the screen when in 1024x768 mode, 800x600 works fine, but it too damn little :-) Since this seems to be a problem with the driver, I don't think there is anything to do.
Feb. CTP, try that when its available. :) -- -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Bjarke Istrup Pedersen" wrote in message

okay, I will, but I don't think it will work, since every driver except the one that acer has released is broken with this machine.
The aim of the Vista beta is for it to get better over time until is final. What might not work in todays CTP might be running out of the box on the next CTP. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

How well I know, Andre. Out of the box isn't what I see in this build, and others have said it's running fine. Go figure.

On the laptop, its a great out of the box experience, but on the desktop, its called doom. I wish they just provide stable drivers for my nVidia Geforce FX 5200 and Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Cards. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

I do believe Vista supports Ati and Nvidia good. Any graphic cards on board can play Vista well (maybe GMA900 is good :P )
Your Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics only support directx 7 by hardware. The Vista 5270 is built on directx 10. to run it well, you need a graphic card support directx 9. :-)
I can still run on cards that doesn't support DX9. I don't care about glass, but I care about being able to see my entire desktop on the screen.
"2nd the drivers for Windows XP are not all good for Vista :("
Not true. Windows XP's compatible video card drivers work just fine in Windows Vista. The only tradeoff is that you're restricted to Aero Basic.
"right click the mouse on the desktop click the attribute settings advance monitor choose refresh frequency to 60 or 70"
This applies to CRT monitors, not Tablet PC LCDs.

No, wrong.
Intel 82825/82855 GM/GME is:
DirectX 8-compliant DirectX 9-compatible WGF 1.0-incompatible (probably) WGF 2.0-incompatible (definitely)
Intel has not released any Vista Beta drivers for this particular video card, it did release a Vista Beta driver for the Centrino WiFi devices (802.11).
What do you mean by "well"? I don't think GMA900 (DirectX 9-compliant) will run Glass well in 30 FPS without a hitch in 1024 x 768, and I'm definitely sure Aero Glass will not play nice with all on-board video cards.
Finally, Windows Vista is not "built on DirectX 10". If there's no video card that supports DirectX 10 (more correctly WGF 2.0), or Direct X 9, Windows Vista will revert back to Aero Basic and will run with Windows XP-compatible drivers. That means, no LDDM drivers are just fine.

Tried with Vista build 5308, and now I have two options: 1: Use the driver that comes with Vista (or newest from intel.com), and only have 800x600, since 1024x768 cuts off the buttom and top of the screen. 2: Use the driver from acer, and get a BSOD as soon as Windows comes up.
Well, back on XP again :-( Anyone who has any ideas on how to fix this?
